OC Mobile Surgery

Hi! My name is Dr. Joanne Hughes, and I’m the founder of OC Mobile Surgery. I’m passionate about providing the best advanced surgical care and pain control for your pet’s individual needs. My team includes a dedicated anesthetist and a surgical technician, who remain focused on your pet’s safety throughout the procedure. Our team emphasizes fear–free patient handling techniques to make your pet’s experience with us as comfortable and smooth as possible.

Because I’ve performed thousands of advanced surgeries in my career, I bring a breadth and depth of experience that only a seasoned surgeon can. Let’s work together to get your pet on the road to recovery!

Joanne Hughes, DVM

I graduated from the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 2001. Since then, I have pursued advanced surgical training through surgical internships, an orthopedic fellowship at Washington State University, and countless hands-on advanced training courses to further my skills and abilities. What I love most about being a veterinary surgeon is that I get to keep learning and growing, all while helping families get the care they need for beloved pets. Outside of work, I like traveling with my wife, Ericka, skiing, game nights, and plotting ridiculous costumes and activities for our ragtag crew of dogs and cats.

Surgical & Anesthesia Technician

I have been working in the veterinary field since 2002. I graduated from Professional Veterinary Assistant School in 2008 and became a licensed Registered Veterinary Technician in 2009. I pride myself in taking care of each of my patients using my breadth of knowledge and experience and the care and compassion I would show my own pet. It’s so fulfilling to know that I’ve helped a family’s beloved pet at the end of each workday. In my free time, I play miniature golf. Over the years, I’ve gone to most of the mini golf courses in So Cal, but I have my favorites. At home, I have a Doberman named Zitrone, who keeps me on my toes, and a cat named Kirby, who loves to surprise me with “gifts” to show me that he is a mighty hunter.

Surgical & Anesthesia Technician

I have worked in veterinary medicine since 1988, when I started as a veterinary assistant at a small general practice in my hometown of Johnson City, TN. Since then, I have worked my way up through 8 different clinics, including working as an ICU/Critical Care technician in specialty practice. In 2009, I became a licensed Registered Veterinary Technician. Most of my time at OC Mobile Surgery is spent coordinating schedules and logistics to ensure each pet’s surgery runs as smoothly as possible. My goal is to decrease at least some of the stress pet owners feel when facing a major surgery on their pet. In my free time, I have recently started refinishing and refurbishing vintage furniture, which is a much more fulfilling hobby than I had ever imagined! I also enjoy baking and hanging out in the pool with my wife, Joanne, and our pitbull, Darla. I also like sharing the couch with our aging Chihuahuas, Olive and Micky, and our cats, Tiki and Mac.
